Back in March, Lesia shared info about how the Hales Bar Dam haunted tours had closed. Sadly, the ghost tour operators turned out to be shysters.
After booking tours and taking people’s money up front, the tours abruptly stopped. No explanation. Just pffft. Changed all their contact info, deleted their Facebook page and vanished –like ghosts into thin air.
It’s important to note it wasn’t the marina owners who did this. They had hired a third party to operate the tours.
Well, now the marina is in the hands of a new owner. One who is planning on bringing back the tours –which they’ll operate themselves. No third parties involved. They don’t want to chance history repeating itself.
I discovered this when the marina’s owner, Nicole, left a comment on Haunt Jaunts Facebook page. She’d come across Lesia’s article that I’d shared there.
I immediately asked if she would be willing to answer a few questions. She was, and here’s five things I learned about the future of Hales Bar Dam under her stewardship…
1. In Good Hands
Nicole respects three things:
- The dam
- The people who want to visit it (whether it be for the historic, architectural or paranormal reasons –or maybe a combo thereof.)
- The dam’s restless spirits
As she put it when I asked about tours, “I will have select dates open throughout the year, this will not be every day of the year open. I don’t want the spirits worn down or abused. They need breaks too.”
Speaking of tours…
2. Historic and Paranormal Tours
Nicole will personally handle the tours after the epic Halloween season event she has planned this Fall. (We’ll get to that.) She will offer both historical and paranormal tours.
3. Rules
I’m not sure what went down with the old tour company. I saw a little bit of the hubbub on social media from investigators I know who had been screwed over when whatever happened, happened. It didn’t sound pretty.
To try and protect everyone’s interest, here’s what people can expect going forward:
- NO Ouija boards, seances, etc.
- NO drinking or drugs.
- NO person/group will ever be allowed in alone again. There will always be someone from Hales Bar Dam on site to ensure safety and that rules are being followed.
4. Upkeep
As you might guess, historic places require upkeep –sometimes a little more frequently than more modern places. Well, that all costs money. Tour and event sales will go towards helping with maintenance and repair costs.
5. Events
The Halloween season event is called 6 Fears Hell’s Bar Dam. Here’s the description from the Facebook event:
Step into one of Tennessee’s most haunted locations for an experience like no other! We will be hosting a haunt tour and a paranormal tour with lots of surprises in store for an unforgettable experience! This is one epic event you don’t want to miss out on!
It starts Friday July 27, and will continue every weekend (Friday and Saturday nights) through October until November 1st.
More info and ticket sales will be posted on their website, but here’s the link to the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/2359929680954415/
But going forward, Nicole would also like to host fun family events like concerts and “Scary Movies in the Dam.” If that appeals to you too, I’ve linked to their website and Facebook pages in the “For More Info” section below. If you haven’t already liked them but would like to be kept abreast of event info, following them on Facebook is a good way to do it!

Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
I’m curious to know what happened to the previous owners and are they going to be held accountable for the fraud/theft? Any word on what the authorities are doing with regards to that?
FANTASTIC questions. I don’t know, but this is what I want to look into. If I find anything out, I’ll let you know…well, I’ll write about it. Curious about all that myself.
