From what we know so far, Ghostober 2022 promises tons of spooky programming. However, it seems discovery+ hasn’t entirely revealed all of the treats it has in store. The streamer had another trick up its sleeve with the recent announcement that it’s adding an eerie new series, We Bought A Funeral Home, to this year’s Ghostober lineup. It unearths an unconventional side of the home renovation realm. Let’s check it out.
About We Bought a Funeral Home
The six-episode series documents the quirky journey of Heather and Arryn Blumberg and their two kids, Rafferty and Noa. They traded in big city life to buy, renovate, and design a 12,000-square-foot, 1800s Victorian funeral home in the small town of Dresden, Ontario.
The decrepit three-story, 38-room property, filled with meandering maze-like hallways and staircases, will be quite an undertaking for the Halloween and horror-obsessed family who bring it back to life as their weird and wonderful dream home. The Blumbergs rely on each other, as well as the help of a skilled construction crew, to pull off this massive glam goth overhaul, wrought with strange shadows, frightening noises, and a shocking discovery.
We Bought A Funeral Home is available to stream on Saturdy, October 1 on discovery+.
Premiere Episode and Date
In the premiere episode, the Blumbergs run into a string of spooky occurrences while settling into their new funeral home. Heather and Arryn choose a local contractor to take on the enormous $400,000 renovation project, and the entire family gets their hands dirty as demolition begins on the monstrous property.

Check-In
Have you ever lived in a funeral home? If not, would you like to if you could?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
I’ve never lived in a funeral home, but it wouldn’t bother me. The place of death, especially if violent, I think would more likely be the haunted place! The show sounds interesting!
As usual, you’ve once again left a super astute observation, Priscilla! I hadn’t thought about it like that but totally agree. Thanks for sharing your brilliance!
