We Now Know Which Haunted Mansion Will Star in the New Movie

The inspiration for the new Haunted Mansion movie was among the five things we knew about it. Of course it’s based on its namesake ride, but which park would it be from? Disneyland or Magic Kingdom? Or would it be a general mashup of both? Or would it be like the 2003 Haunted Mansion with Eddie Murphy and not resemble either house or very much from the ride?

Well, thanks to the teaser trailer that was released earlier this month, we now know which house is starring in the movie. The one from Disneyland in California!

At least the outside of the house is the one that’s featured in the movie. But the mansions in both parks share similar traits on the inside, even if they’re not laid out in the same identical way.

Which is something else we know thanks to the trailer. The movie is most definitely bringing the iconic ride to life. From the clock and the stretching room to the spooky portraits, the Bride, the Hat-box Ghost, and the graveyard (just to name a few), fans are having a blast spotting their favorite parts from the ride in the trailer. (Or is that just me?)

Let’s revisit what the movie will be about and who will star in it. And then we’ll speculate about whether or not it may materialize some sequels.

Haunted Mansion Logline

Inspired by the classic theme park attraction, Haunted Mansion is about a woman and her son who enlist a motley crew of so-called spiritual experts to help rid their home of supernatural squatters.

Cast

The main cast consists of star-studded talent, including LaKeith Stanfield (Knives Out), Tiffany Haddish (Bad Trip), Owen Wilson (Loki), Danny DeVito (Jumanji: The Next Level), Rosario Dawson (Zombieland: Double Tap), and Chase Dillon (The Underground Railroad).

But there are some other huge names taking on some of the rides most familiar characters, such as Jamie Lee Curtis as Madame Leota and Jared Leto as the Hat-Box Ghost.

IMDB indicates two other big-name stars are also in the movie, including Winona Ryder and Dan Levy, but it doesn’t specify which parts they play. Will they bring more of the ride’s iconic characters to life too?

Maybe we’ll hear more the closer it gets to release time, which will happen on July 28, 2023.

Sequels?

The other thing I’m wondering is whether Disney may be positioning Haunted Mansion to be like Pirates of the Caribbean. Meaning, will they create a franchise with sequels based on the mansions and their stories in their other parks?

Possibly. We might need to consult Madame Leota for answers about that, though. Or wait to see how successful (or not) this first one is before we hope for more.

What’s your favorite part(s) of the trailer? I like Chase Dillon’s scenes the best. (The little boy who plays Travis.) But basically, all of it has me very excited for this movie!

  1. It’s sick how much I’m looking forward to this! I hope it’s good.

  2. Yeah, it is a good trailer! I can’t imagine walking by myself in a creepy old haunted mansion in dim light. THAT’s the scariest part of the trailer!

That’s hilarious, Priscilla! But also a good point. It’s easy to watch someone else doing it, but you made me wonder…could I really walk in a creepy dimly lit old mansion by myself either?
