I’ve kept my eyes peeled for updates ever since I first learned a live-action series about Wednesday Addams was headed to Netflix. Back then we didn’t know much except that it would be a supernatural coming-of-age series created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar of Smallville fame and directed by Tim Burton.

Well, yesterday I spotted an exciting update. Hollywood Life reported that Netflix announced Wednesday will start streaming in 2022. There’s still not an exact release date, but at least we know to expect it sometime this year.

However, the Hollywood Life article also shared a couple more details about the forthcoming series. Let’s check those out.

Wednesday Storyline

At Nevermore Academy, Wednesday Addams will attempt to master her emerging psychic ability, which might come in handy with trying to thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships.

Wednesday Cast

Jenna Ortega (You, The Babysitter: Killer Queen, Scream) stars as Wednesday Addams. Catherine Zeta-Jones will star as her mom, Morticia Addams, while Luis Guzmán will guest star as her dad Gomez Addams.

Also appearing in all eight episodes will be Jamie McShane (Fear the Walking Dead, Bloodline, CSI: Vegas) as Sheriff Donovan Galpin, Emma Myers (Dead of Night, Girl in the Basement) as Enid Sinclair, and Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay (Yas Kween, Dear White People).

And I just have to note, what an exciting year for Ortega. She’s in two much-anticipated projects: a movie, Scream, and a series, Wednesday.

Here are a couple of posts from her Instagram promoting both.

And I can’t help but wonder, will it turn out that she’s the killer in Scream? There’s a headline for you: “Wednesday Addams is Ghostface – *snap, snap*”

Wednesday Setting

We know that it will be set at the fictional Nevermore, a boarding school. Hollywood Life mentioned that filming started in Bucharest, Romania, in September 2021 and is set to wrap in February 2022.

Romania would make a perfect setting for the series, but will it be set abroad or did they simply film there to capitalize on the country’s amazing architecture and atmosphere?

Guess we’ll have to wait and see, but of course now I’m curious if anywhere they filmed or stayed also happened to be haunted. If I hear about that or any other Wednesday news, I’ll of course share another update.

Do you think Wednesday will be set in Romania? Or do you think they’ll set the series in a fictional city or country?

  1. Yes, it makes so much sense to set it in Romania. Ortega will make a great Wednesday. I’m disappointed that there won’t be a Pugsley. Pugsley and Wednesday’s interactions were head-shaking funny. But I get it, bullying on TV isn’t cool. Even Pugsley’s name, considering his body shape…

My bad! I should’ve included that Thing, Lurch and Pugsley will also be in some episodes! But it looks like only Wednesday, Morticia and Gomez will be in all 8. It’ll be interesting to see their dynamics though…and whether it may lead to Pugsley getting his own spin-off series?
