What do The Boogeyman and The Exorcist have in common?

It sounds like it could be the start of a joke, right? “Did you hear what The Boogeyman and The Exorcist have in common?”

They do share a couple of things in common, but there’s no punchline. Rather, it has to do with the fact they’re both releasing on digital and Blu-ray with special features. Even better, they’ll both be out in time for Halloween. Let’s check it out.

The Boogeyman Comes Home

Matt Donato from IGN called The Boogeyman “the scariest horror film of the year.” If you’re brave enough to bring the movie into your home, you can buy it on digital from Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango/Vudu on August 29.

Or, if you want to add it to your video collection, the Blu-ray and DVD releases will be available on October 10.

The Exorcist

Warner Bros. Studio is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year by shining the spotlight on some of its Academy Award-winning movies. The Exorcist is one of the films joining the year-long centennial festivities.

However, The Exorcist is also celebrating a milestone anniversary of its own: the 50th anniversary of its 1973 release. Part of that includes the release of a new requel (reboot-sequel), The Exorcist: Believer, which hits theaters on Friday, October 13.

But the original remains an icon. The supernatural film based on William Peter Blatty’s 1971 novel of the same name is widely regarded as a supernatural masterpiece. It was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. It also received acting nominations for Ellen Burstyn (“Chris MacNeil”), Jason Miller (“Father Karras”), and Linda Blair (“Regan”). The Exorcist won two Academy Awards, including Best Adapted Screenplay for Blatty.

Now the classic is coming to 4K Ultra HD Disc and Digital for the first time this September. It’ll be available for purchase both online and in-store at major retailers on September 19. It will also be available for purchase digitally from Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, Google Play, Vudu, and more.

The Ultra HD Blu-ray Discs include both the 1973 theatrical version of the film and the 2000 Extended Director’s Cut, which features eleven additional minutes of footage not seen in theaters.

It’s important to note the theatrical version discs and digital contains some of the same special features as the Director’s Cut disc and digital offerings, but they also differ a bit too.

The Exorcist Theatrical Version Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc and Digital
