Phantom of the Opera really has nothing to do with Madame Morbid’s Trolley Tours –apart from the fact that I found it via the TodayTix app, which I had downloaded to try and find discounted tickets to Phantom. On Broadway. Because I was in New York City and had some time to myself. The weather was yucky, I wasn’t in the mood for museums, and I’d never been to a Broadway show before. So why not?
Why was I in New York City?
The Companion
I had sort of invited myself along/stowed away on my husband’s trip. He had business there. I decided to put my Southwest Airlines Companion Pass to use.
It’s an incredible perk my husband’s qualified for the past couple of years. We put it to pretty good use last year, but when he switched jobs I realized I could’ve taken more advantage. So, that’s what I was doing.
Finding a Show
I’d really wanted to see Wicked. Phantom is my favorite, but I’ve already seen it. I figured I should see something new that I’d never seen before.
The trouble was, I didn’t think about a Broadway show ahead of time, so I was doing my research the same day I hoped to catch one. Which was a Thursday.
Wicked‘s matinee had been on Wednesday. I’d been busy trying to finish posting the Amy and Adam Kindred Spirits interview on Wednesday that I didn’t get done before we left. (We’d flown to NYC late Tuesday night after a several hour flight delay. I was a bit wiped out Wednesday to be honest.)
Anyway, by Thursday I had caught up on a little work and decided to do something I’d never done before. Which was see a Broadway show. And that’s how I discovered the TodayTix app.
TodayTix
I found a lot of info about where to find discounted Broadway shows. If I’d done my research the day before, I could’ve stopped by a TKTS discount ticket booth. They sell same-day Broadway show tickets, but for matinees you need to go the day before.
That left two other options:
- Go directly to the theater’s box office and see if they could hook me up with any deals, or
- Use the TodayTix app.
I started with the second choice, because I’m lazy and it was raining. TodayTix did have an incredible offer for the 7 p.m. Phantom showing, but not the matinee.
I decided to scroll through and see what other Thursday matinee shows I might come across.
That’s when I saw it: Madame Morbid’s Trolley Tours.
Madame Morbid’s
Madame Morbid’s offers Brooklyn’s –or BOO-klyn, as they put it– only ghost trolley tour.
It’s a combo dark history and true-crime tour that includes tales about ghosts, vampires, and aliens while also visiting “the locations of unmarked graves and infamous murder sites.” Plus you get to learn about death and mourning rituals.
Perfect, right? It would’ve been if I’d had the night free. I would’ve navigated my way over to Brooklyn to take it.
However, I only had the day to myself, and my husband and I had plans for the evening. So…Madame Morbid’s Trolley Tours will have to wait until I can get myself back up to NYC again.
Boo-k It!
Madame Morbid’s Trolley Tours is not one of the affiliates we have listed among the tours on our Boo-k A Ghost Tour or Paranormal Activity page. However, here’s some info if you find yourself in the Big Apple and want to take this tour:
- Tickets are $49 per person. (But if you want a discount, download the TodayTix app. You can score tickets for $39 per person.)
- Tours run Tuesdays through Sundays at 7pm and 9pm, with additional 4 pm tours on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

P.S.
I ended up buying tickets to Phantom directly from the box office. The attendant was so nice and got me an excellent seat six rows from the front, dead center –and under the chandelier! (All for $70 less than the tickets I was prepared to buy!)
It was super exciting and sort of kismet that it worked out I lost my Broadway show virginity to my all-time favorite Broadway show.
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
