Hey, look what I found in my inbox this morning. Another press release! (Love these things.) Yesterday it was for TLC’s returning Friday night frights line-up. Today it’s for the Halloween and HauntFest Show.
On Saturday and Sunday, August 26th and 27th, Halloween and HauntFest 2017 will take over the Mesquite Convention Center just outside Dallas to give pro haunters, dedicated home haunters, and just plain old Halloween lovers the opportunity to visit local Halloween attractions, shop for exotic haunt products, learn how to creep their crypt and more. This family-friendly, weekend-long celebration is all about everything Halloween, haunts, and horror.
What You’ll Find
The weekend tradeshow on the convention center floor features vendors of all things weird and spooky. In addition, on Friday, August 25th, there will be several, all-day, hands-on workshops on everything from acting to making mini LED spotlights to developing soldering skills to tombstone-carving to creating inexpensive, DIY severed limbs.
Tickets
Ticket prices for Halloween and HauntFest range from $15 for a one-day pass to get onto the show floor to $89, which includes entrance to the show floor and all the workshops. Some of the hands-on workshops have fees associated with them, but, for the most part, it’s all you can eat for $89 for the weekend.
Steven Colberg, organizer of this year’s event, explains:
“For the $15 general admission, attendees have access to dozens of Halloween-related vendors and exhibitors as well as free demos, performances, seminars, characters in costume, and access to Kids Kreepy Kraft Klasses. The $89 Haunter’s Annex ticket provides all of the above plus unlimited access to more than 40 seminars and more than a dozen workshops. Haunter’s Annex classes are organized into four categories: Making Monsters (classes about makeup, costumes, scare acting, and more), Halloween Hosting (learn recipes, mixology, and decorating for your Halloween party), Creep Your Crypt (how to decorate your yard and house for the holiday), and Terror Tech (techniques for taking your haunt to the next level).
In addition, there’s the opportunity for behind-the-scenes peeks at local haunted attractions.”
For Out-of-Towners
Hampton Hotel and Suites, which is attached to the Convention Center, is offering a discount for event attendees. Rooms start at $109 a night, which includes breakfast.

ABOUT HALLOWEEN AND HAUNTFEST
This is year two of the Halloween and HauntFest event, which describes itself as “a gateway show to all things Halloween.” Last year’s event was held in Arlington, Texas, and more than a thousand people attended. This year, more than three thousand people are expected to attend. Halloween and HauntFest is unique in that it’s open to the public as well as haunters, and it’s family friendly. Home haunters will have a blast, and the education line-up provides a variety of information and experiences so there’s something for everyone.
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
