“Hey, Georgie, wanna go camping with me?”

Updated July 8, 2019

When you read the title, did you hear the Friday the 13th “ch ch ch ah ah ah” in your head? Did you maybe even get a few goosebumps?

One of the more exciting types of events I added to the Halloween Cons & Haunted House page this year was Camps. I got goosebumps when I came across them and knew I must write about them.

Does this sound like a screaming good time to you? Then let’s get to it and see where you can attend three four spooky summer camps this year.

1. June 14 & 15: Black Orchard Summer Camp – Shelbyville, KY

This one isn’t an overnight experience, but it still sounds like a blast.

In addition to the haunted house, your admission includes:

  • a water gun (to shoot monsters, who will not touch you, but you can drench them if they try)
  • campfire food (hot dog and S’mores)
  • slasher movies (Halloween and Scream)
  • games

2. June 22: Kim’s Krypt Kampout – Spring Grove, PA

There is No Mercy at the Kim’s Krypt Haunted Mill this summer. It’s a 13 hour horror “kampout” like none other.

It’s an interactive scavenger hunt on 62.5 “kreepy” wooded acres. You have 13 hours to complete tasks while “creatures, monsters, and freaks detain, interact and misguide you.” (And if they get too much, just blast ’em with your water gun.)

Ticket prices include:

  • Dinner
  • Continental Breakfast
  • Campfire S’mores
  • Limited edition Kim’s Krypt Kamp Out T-shirt and gift pack
  • Entertainment (horror movies, games and other surprises)

3. July 24: Fort Knox Ghost Camp – Prospect, ME

This one isn’t in a Halloween-style haunted house like the others, but does involve ghosts –potentially real ones.

You’ll hunt for ghosts in the 150 year old fort built during the Civil War with the 207 Paranormal Ghost Trackers are your guides. They’ll have high–tech night vision and sensor equipment on hand.

BYO sleeping bag and/or tent. Your $50 ticket includes sandwiches and a light breakfast.

4. August 3: Camp Dread – Hannibal, NY

This one is an overnight event complete with tents and sleeping bags.

It’s a scavenger hunt for prizes in the dark of night over 25 acres while freaks, cannibals, zombies and clowns hunt you down.  They can even invade your tent and sleeping bag. (Nothing would wake me up faster than a zombie trying to snuggle up next to me. What about you?)

There’s team and individual challenges, meals, movies, a bonfire and more. The tent is even included in the ticket price, but it’s pretty clear you won’t do much actual sleeping in it.

Other Summer Halloween Haunted Houses

In addition to the above camp-style haunted houses, you’ll also find these five haunted houses under the Summer listings on the Halloween Cons & Haunted House Events page:

Would you attend a spooky summer camp? Or are you a bawk bawk chicken butt like me? (I can handle jaunting into treacherous terrain in search of Bigfoot, aliens and ghosts, but put a person in a mask? I’m out!)

  1. I’m chicken, I admit it! I could maybe go to the Kentucky camp since it’s not overnight and, hey, s’mores.:-)

  2. Sounds like a blast, but I couldn’t do it. I’m a big chicken.
