Since we can’t go to the movies, studios are making it possible for the movies to come to us by releasing them on Video on Demand (VOD). Two I had my eyes on that I was looking forward to taking a jaunt to the theater to see were The Hunt and The Invisible Man. The novel coronavirus pandemic changed those plans, however.
If you’re in the same boat, here’s where and when we’ll be able to stream both.
Well, the when is Friday, March 20 in both cases. And you can stream both on Amazon, iTunes, Vudu, Google Play, and YouTube.
The Hunt
Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don’t know where they are, or how they got there. They don’t know they’ve been chosen – for a very specific purpose – The Hunt. ~from IMDB
The Hunt has had one release misfortune after another. It was originally set to be released September 2019. However, because of the mass shootings in Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas, and its violent and controversial subject matter, it got pushed to this year.
With apparently little fanfare, because it technically was released Friday, March 13. Yikes. Proved to be an unlucky Friday the 13th for it. Theaters were already experiencing diminished crowds thanks to COVID-19. (Which also might explain why I hadn’t heard about it. COVID-19 has pretty much been dominating the news in my household.)
Anyway, according to Decider, The Hunt is expected to be available as soon as Friday, March 20.
I’ve been wanting to see it because it had a sort of The Purge feel to it. Maybe because it’s from Blumhouse Productions?
It’s also written by Nick Cuse and Damon Lindelof, both of whom have dark shows like Watchmen to their credits, as well as Lost and The Leftovers for Lindelof.
Stars include Hilary Swank, Emma Roberts, Amy Madigan, Ike Barinholtz, and Ethan Suplee just to name a few.
The Hunt is available for preorder to own on Amazon, for $19.99. Not sure how much it’ll cost to rent. is available to rent for 48 hours on Amazon for $19.99.
The Invisible Man
When Cecilia’s abusive ex takes his own life and leaves her his fortune, she suspects his death was a hoax. As a series of coincidences turn lethal, Cecilia works to prove that she is being hunted by someone nobody can see. ~from IMDB
I tried to score advance screening tickets to this one but couldn’t. It was way too popular. Or I was too slow. Maybe a combo of both. Who knows?
All I do know is that it stars Elisabeth Moss and I have yet to find something I haven’t liked her in.
From Mad Men to Top of the Lake to The Handmaid’s Tale, she owns whatever role she’s in. I think she’s one of the best actors in the biz, which is why I’m so looking forward to The Invisible Man. (She’s also going to be in Shirley later this year. Another one I’m looking forward to. She’ll be starring as Shirley Jackson, author of The Haunting of Hill House, We Have Always Lived in the Castle, and The Lottery and Other Stories.)

Check-In
Will you take advantage of studios releasing movies straight to VOD during this time of social distancing staying-at-home too?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
