Discovery Channel issued a press release yesterday with shocking news: Ghost Adventures is moving over there from Travel Channel. It’s not like it’s a special that’s premiering exclusively on discovery+, as it did with the Cecil Hotel investigation when the streamer first launched a couple of years ago. (Although the premiere episode, “Ghost Adventures: Lake of Death” is two-hours, so it’s almost like a special.)

No, what I’m talking about is that Ghost Adventures is full-on moving over to Discovery Channel and bidding Travel Channel adieu.

Wait. What? Why?

The answer may lay in a statement made in the press release from Kathleen Finch, Chairman and Chief Content Officer, US Networks Group, Warner Bros. Discovery:

Ghost Adventures is one of the many successful franchises in the Warner Bros. Discovery portfolio and we can continue to help it grow by sharing it with a much larger audience on Discovery. One of the benefits of having an incredible network ecosystem is that we can find new ways to amplify great content, super serve passionate fans of each genre and introduce new audiences to additional content that will appeal to them.”

Whether you love it or hate it, there’s no denying that Ghost Adventures is one of the most successful paranormal TV shows ever —if not the most successful. More than 10 million viewers watched Ghost Adventures on Travel Channel last season. And among men 25-54, it was cable’s #1 non-sports/news program in its time slot. As far as programming goes, paranormal or otherwise, those are great stats.

So I guess it’s fitting they want to expand the show’s reach and why it’s getting a special showcase on Discovery Channel beginning Wednesday, May 31 at 10 pm ET/PT with the new season’s premiere.

What Zak Bagans Said about Ghost Adventures Moving to Discovery Channel

“Fans can expect insane investigations and mountains of paranormal evidence this season. I can’t wait to share our findings with longtime fans and capture the attention of new viewers. I’m grateful to be able to expand the reach of what Ghost Adventures has always set out to do —build a better understanding of the afterlife.”

The Other Notable Change

Besides moving to a new network, Ghost Adventures is also moving to a new day. On Travel Channel, new episodes used to drop on Thursdays. It looks like Wednesdays will be the day to watch on Discovery Channel. But the time slot, 10 pm ET/PT, remains the same.

No Other Changes with the New Season

Besides moving to Discovery Channel, everything else will stay the same about Ghost Adventures. It will still star paranormal investigators Zak Bagans, Aaron Goodwin, Jay Wasley, and Billy Tolley.

The team will continue to travel to haunted locations in search of evidence of the afterlife. They’ll also still meet with locals, eyewitnesses, and experts to piece together the haunted history of each site. And their investigations will remain comprehensive, utilizing the latest scientific gadgets and technology to capture physical evidence of the paranormal and gain a better understanding of each supernatural mystery.

“Lake of Death” Two-Hour Ghost Adventures Premiere

The new season kicks off with a two-hour episode investigating the deadly secrets at Hoover Dam’s Lake Mead. Ghost Adventures: Lake of Death includes an attack by an anxiety-inducing spirit that brings Bagans to his knees and fearing for his life.

Other Locations This Season

Other places the team will investigate this season include:

  • Los Angeles’ Barclay Hotel, whose grisly history rivals that of the infamous Hotel Cecil
  • California’s first oil boomtown, Mentryville, which is teeming with paranormal chaos
  • The Commercial Casino and Hotel in Elko, Nevada with a lawless history that now fuels a malevolent energy
  • Los Angeles’ peculiar Longfellow-Hastings Octagon House that’s brimming with poltergeist activity.

Will you save the date to watch when Ghost Adventures moves to Discovery Channel on May 31?

  1. The way Discovery explained it, it makes sense for Ghost Adventures to move to that channel. Eh, we don’t have access to Discovery, but I may be able to catch reruns elsewhere at a later date. That’d be cool!

  2. I don’t know if I will watch it, even for background noise, after what went down with the Destination Fear team. I have to think about this.

We don’t have Discovery Channel either, Vera. We do have discovery+, but the press release didn’t mention if it would stream the same day there or not. But I imagine at some point we’ll both be able to catch it elsewhere in re-runs. lol

Right! You bring up a great point, Maria. That actually IS a dilemma…an ethical one. (And one I’d forgotten about…dang it. How could I?!)
