“Use this as a ‘I’m tired of waiting for Stranger Things and will watch FROM because they don’t make me wait 3 years for another season’ button.”

That comment from @jasiablessing was by far my favorite of all those left on the FROM season 3 trailer. It completely personifies why it has the “Fromily” (FROM fans) all stirred up. It has to do with the fact that season 3 is coming. September 22. Date saved!

But this sneak peek into arguably one of the best, scariest, most alluring horror series also has fans searching for clues to the biggest questions from the past 2 seasons. Did it provide any answers?

Of course not! What would be the point of needing to watch the new season, then?

But it did raise several more questions, starting with one of the biggest cliffhangers from season 2.

*WARNING* Spoilers ahead for the first two seasons.

Where is Tabitha?

At the end of season 2, Tabitha Matthews (Catalina Sandino Moreno) follows the voices of possible ghost children to the top of the lighthouse. She finds the Boy in White, a mysterious (and creepy, possibly ghostly) character who has appeared to both her son, Ethan (Simon Webster), and Fromtown’s longest resident, Victor (Scott McCord). But not many others seem to see him.

No sooner does she see him than he says, “I’m sorry,” before pushing her out of the lighthouse’s window. It was a truly gasp-inducing moment.

However, even at the end of last season, we knew the show hadn’t killed her off. (Or did it?) She “woke up” elsewhere, though.

But that’s just it. We don’t know where. Is she back in the “real” world, or just stuck in another section of Fromtown?

Thanks to the season 3 trailer, we know she’s returning to the new season and is striving to understand where she is now, how she got there, where she was, and how she gets back there and to her family—or finds a way to get them out, too.

Who’s not returning in season 3?

As they have in past seasons, people are definitely going to die in season 3, possibly more beloved characters. (I was crushed when the monsters got Tom, the bartender.)

After the trailer shows Tabitha waking up in the hospital, it shows Boyd (Harold Perrineau) pulling a wheelbarrow through town with a body in it. A pair of bloodstained feet, only one with a tennis shoe on it, sticks out from under a tarp covering it.

Boyd’s shirt is also stained with blood. Then he’s in the police station having a conversation with Donna (Elizabeth Saunders) about an ambush.

“How many did you save?” she asks.

Boyd’s reaction indicates not enough, Donna. Not enough.

Soon after that, he’s walking in the church with the tarp-covered body in his arms. I’m gonna venture a guess that it’s the same person from the wheelbarrow. But who?

While scrolling through the comments, one from @Ruinya jumped out at me: “Notice how Tillie isn’t anywhere in the trailer.” (They also wrote, “she’s gonna do something, just wait.”)

I don’t know about that. (Didn’t she die in season 2? I need to look into that.) But it prompted me to rewatch the trailer and take note of who’s in it—and who’s not.

In addition to Tabitha, Boyd, Donna, Ethan, and Victor, other main characters we see in the trailer include Kenny (Ricky He), Jade (David Alpay), Jim (Eion Bailey), Fatima (Pegah Ghafoori), Sara (Avery Konrad), Tian (Elizabeth Moy), Julie (Hannah Cheramy), Ellis (Corteon Moore), Elgin (Nathan D. Simmons), Randall (A.J. Simmons), and Kristi (Chloe Van Landschoot).

So far it seems that most of those who made it through last season will be back. The question is, for how many episodes of season 3?

Why did Ethan open the door?

Last season we learned about the talismans that Boyd found in the forest while running from the creatures. He discovered they offered protection. For whatever reason, the monsters could not enter any space where they were. So, naturally, he brought one back for everyone to hang in their homes.

It was important because before that when darkness fell and the monsters came out, houses provided no sanctuary. The monsters could walk in, uninvited. But if a talisman was present, they couldn’t.

Nighttime was still dangerous. The monsters, who assume human form, tap on windows and knock on doors, begging to be let in. But as long as doors and windows remained shut, residents stayed safe. Prior to that, they had to hide and hope it was a good spot. If not, they’d be dinner.

Now, all residents know not to answer the door at night. So why does Ethan break protocol?

What does “ashgweny” mean?

The trailer doesn’t even touch on the question that’s haunted me since the end of season 2. It’s a word Tabitha (and I think Victor too, if memory serves correctly), discover in the cave: “ashgweny.”

I may not be spelling it right, but what in the heck does it mean? Is it a word scramble? Is it some kind of alien language?

It’s not a foreign one from this world. I looked. Will we get an answer about that in season 3? (They left a couple of open-ended questions from season 1 unanswered in season 2. That’s why I ask.)

Why aren’t more people watching From?

One thing that tickled me from the comments was all the people who watch, but who wish more people watched too. (Because we want more people to theorize with!)

FROM is extremely popular among those who’ve seen it. For good reason. Think Lost meets The Twilight Zone with a splash of Salem’s Lot. It’s spooky, gripping, mind-bending, creepy AF, and just plain good tantalizing terror.

However, it’s on a smaller streamer, MGM+. Not that it costs a lot, but we can only afford so many streamers, right? At least, I can only afford so many. I need to maximize my bang for the buck. MGM+ has some originals and new releases, but it’s no Netflix.

I paid for MGM+ as one of my channels through Amazon Prime specifically to watch FROM season 1 right before season 2 was released. But after it ended, I canceled it.

However, I’ll renew come September 22. It’s worth the price. And I’ll have my can of peaches ready. (To share with Victor.)
