We are super excited about our 1st Annual Horror Writing Contest! What a great response we had!
We figured we may only get a handful of submissions. Nope. We ended up getting 17!
That didn’t make our judges’ jobs easy either. There were a lot of good stories in there. It proved difficult to pick three winners.
Speaking of our fabulous judges, thank you so much again to Christine Verstraete, who writes as C.A. Verstraete, and Phillip Creighton, who writes as P.W. Creighton. They did a phenomenal job of staying on top of all the entries and judging them in a super expeditious manner.
So who were our big winners?
- First Place goes to “The Easy Way” by Matthew Weber
- Second Place goes to “House and Garden” by Elizabeth Hosang
- Third Place goes to “In the Dark Lurk Quiet Things” by Morgan Griffith
Congratulations to our winners! Nicely done.
We also want to award Honorable Mention to “Waiting for GP” by Justin Gustainis.
If you click the story titles linked to the winning stories, you can read them.
Thank you again to everyone who entered and helped make our first contest simply spooktacular!
Happy Halloween!
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
Great contest! I enjoyed the stories by my fellow writers and hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween!
