When Peacock released artwork for Crystal Lake, a Friday the 13th series, at the start of 2023, I was so excited. Especially after I verified that the Instagram post someone had shared with me about it was legit.

In fact, I was actually late hearing about it. The news had dropped on Peacock’s blog on November 1, 2022.

“We can tell you that Crystal Lake comes to us from the masters of horror at A24 and visionary creator Bryan Fuller,” the post stated. “Joining Fuller are executive producers Marc Toberoff, Victor Miller and Rob Barsamian.”

But here we are in mid-2024, and there’s still no word on a release date. However, there is news about the series.

Fuller fired from the Friday the 13th series

Variety reported the series was in search of a new showrunner after Fuller tweeted on May 8 that he’d been fired, citing “creative differences.”

No word on what the differences were, but Variety mentioned that it could have something to do with a lawsuit filed against Fuller in 2023. Sam Wineman accused Fuller of sexual harassment while working on the four-part docuseries Queer for Fear: The History of Queer Horror.

I’m not sure if that plays any part or not, or how much a change in showrunner will further delay the project. Citing “an individual with knowledge of the project,” Variety said “the series order remains in place,” though.

Victor Miller, the original film’s writer, Marc Toberoff, and Rob Barsamian all remain onboard as executive producers. However, no production or casting has happened yet.

But what I want to know is whether or not Fuller had already completed the script. There was no mention of that. If it’s done, will they still use it, or will the new showrunner have to create one?

Ugh. This series is killing me, and it’s not even out yet. All I know is, for now, the wait for its appearance continues.

Hey, your comment reminded me I thought I’d heard something like that was in the works so I went to check. It is! A prequel series. Couldn’t find a release date but it has some great names in it, including Timothy Olyphant and Essie Davis.
