Would you text the number in the SAW X red band trailer?

Did you notice the invitation to text “I want to play a game” to 1-310-564-8144 in the SAW X trailer? You might have missed it. It flashed up briefly near the end, so you’d be forgiven if you sort of saw it but didn’t really.

Or maybe you were distracted by another buzz surrounding the trailer’s release: its red band status.

Although, as Screen Rant pointed out several years ago, that’s not as big a deal as it once was. Red band trailers, which “have been approved for mature audiences only,” aren’t as uncommon as they once were. They’re basically an “R-rated preview” of an R-rated film, which means it will include some adult material, like sex, drugs, or extreme violence.

Since this is the SAW franchise we’re talking about, that’s basically synonymous with extreme violence. It might be hard to give fans a proper preview without including some, right? The SAW X trailer doesn’t disappoint on that front.

It also makes sense how Tobin Bell is returning as John Kramer. He assures his victims, “This is not retribution. It’s a reawakening.”

Sure looks like retribution to me, and rightly so, which prompted a plethora of complicated emotions, including empathy, understanding, and support.

Wait. What? Was I really was rooting for Kramer to inflict as much terror and torture as possible on his victims?

Yep.

But my favorite line was, “Of all the men to cheat, you picked John Kramer?”

Yeah. Not a smart move.

Another not-so-smart move might be texting “I want to play a game” to that number at the end of the trailer. It almost seems like flirting with a curse or something.

And yet…FOMO may get the better of me. Will I risk being haunted by Jigsaw and Pighead to find out what gets texted back? If this is my last post, you’ll know what happened.
